Voting as a Christian Is Not About Being a Democrat or Republican
Have you ever said or heard the phrase, “who would Jesus vote for?” In a culture where feelings often come before faith and facts, chief religion correspondent at Fox News, Lauren Green, believes Christians shouldn’t be using this phrase as a standard for politics.
Green supports the idea that there is an objective standard outside people and their feelings when it comes to voting for a particular candidate or political issue that must be adhered to through a biblical perspective.
On an episode of My Faith Votes, CEO Jason Yates sits down with Green to discuss how Christians can rise up and make their voices heard and their faith known through their vote.
While the culture says, “the standard is in me and the world must adjust,” Christians must look at politics through an eternal lens and make the wisest choice based on God’s standard set out in His Word.
With 100,000 elections happening, Yates and Green agree that voting based on an individual’s own truth is like building a house on sand — the foundation will inevitably and quickly give way.
Because a lot of young people are being indoctrinated by another worldview opposite the Bible at school, Green highlights the dangers of this demographic voting out of feelings and not facts.
Christianity today is on the verge of becoming apathetic when it comes to real-world issues that need believers’ voices to be heard, which is why Green highlights the fact that God raises up men and women to reflect the Gospel, especially in a day when politics are used as a weapon to condemn and divide.
“When your politics become your faith, then the politician you elect becomes your god,” Green said.
It’s not about whether someone is a Democrat or a Republican. Rather, it’s about voting to the best of one’s ability with the Bible as a trustworthy guide to give glory to God and spread his name throughout the whole world like it says in Romans:
“First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is proclaimed in all the world…” Romans 1:8, ESV.
