Actor Kirk Cameron: Kids Are Being "Indoctrinated" and "Groomed," Not Educated

The debate over how parents should choose to educate their children ratcheted up a notch during the pandemic. As families gained a front row seat to what information their children were receiving through public education, they became motivated to insist on a say in what their children are being taught. Unfortunately, Kirk Cameron observes, parents aren’t the only ones losing control in our education system.

During an interview on the Todd Starnes Show, Cameron made the following statement about his documentary on homeschooling.

The Homeschool Awakening is not a diatribe against the public education system. Listen, my father is a public school teacher. So are my grandparents. ‘Teacher’ is a noble position. You have been entrusted with the minds and hearts of children.

“The problem is teachers are not allowed to determine what they’re teaching their kids. They’re trapped in the same system that is pumping them with Marxist ideas that undermine the values that make this the greatest nation on earth and undermine their faith and undermine their family values.”

Cameron explained that after seeing what children were learning in school, beyond the basics of science and math, many parents have chosen to “take back America.” “They’re pulling their kids out of the public indoctrination system and they’re beginning to take the leadership role in their kids’ education.”

He described these parents as having a pioneering spirit, a sense of adventure, and of wanting their kids to learn about God’s world, develop a love of learning, and give them a chance to develop their identity, character, and faith.

Conversely, Cameron states, “The public school system is … spreading more of a terminal disease called wokeness than they’re doing any real educating. They’re promoting sexual chaos to our children and grooming them for leftist ideas that will ultimately fundamentally change our country.”

Faithwire reports this quote from Cameron about some of the public school content raising concern, “‘Things like Critical Race Theory, gender identity, choose your own pronouns, do I want to be a boy or a girl, hate the country because it’s fundamentally flawed.'”

Starnes pointed out that his executive producer, Grace Baker, was homeschooled. Kirk and his wife, Chelsea, homeschooled their, now adult, six children, although at first, Kirk had a “healthy fear” of homeschooling and thought it was only for “fringe people.”

Do you agree that our children are being "indoctrinated" and "groomed" in America's public school system?

He has since learned he was “totally wrong.” “You can homeschool in a way that fits your family.”

Kirk admitted that “Homeschooling is not a magic wand.” Then added, “But the power of God working through the hearts and hard work of moms and dads can perform miracles.”

Actors Kevin and Sam Sorbo are two other strong advocates of parents taking charge of their children’s educations. Also, Tina Griffin, of The Counter Cultural Mom Show, provides practical information for all families seeking to live biblically in modern times.
