Three Easy Appetizers to Make for Any Gathering

If you’ve ever been asked to bring food to a dinner party, holiday gathering, or want to switch up what you put on the table every night, Michelle Spadafora and her son-in-law, Avery Ross, have got you covered.

On this episode of The Fresh Table, they walk viewers through three easy and healthy appetizers that only take 10-20 minutes each as they encourage listeners that cooking is a learnable and necessary skill for everyone.

Starting with a classic Italian food item with a twist, Spadafora, creator of Faithful Workouts, guides viewers through each step of making meatballs, but without the meat. Gluten free, dairy free, and with no added sugars, this red lentil-based appetizer is filled with protein and fiber along with healthy alternatives such as broccoli stems, cauliflower, carrots, and a flare of Italian seasoning and tomato paste.

Next on the agenda is a four-step recipe for zucchini chips dipped in egg wash and parmesan cheese that cook in the oven for only 10 minutes. While the chips are baking, Spadafora and Ross start the process of making a delicious tuna poke containing high-quality fish, green onion, cucumber, avocado, ginger, and cilantro.

Throughout the video, Spadafora and Ross emphasize that the cooking process by no means needs to be perfect. Whether people are professional chefs or have never turned an oven on before, they should have fun experimenting with each meal they make.

“Today you can have a fresh start,” said Spadafora, who has over 35 years of experience in the health/fitness field. It’s a daily choice to be healthy, and although everyone has good and bad days, Spadafora encourages viewers that “nothing is impossible with God.”

Healthy choices, along with Spiritual, emotional, and mental choices, do not depend on feelings but on what God says in His Word, such as this truth from Nehemiah:

“Then he said to them, ‘Go your way. Eat the fat and drink sweet wine and send portions to anyone who has nothing ready, for this day is holy to our Lord. And do not be grieved, for the joy of the Lord is your strength’” (Nehemiah 8:10, ESV).

Whether this is the beginning or middle of a healthier lifestyle, this episode of The Fresh Table is a simple kickstart and fuel to make “today the first day of the rest of your life,” said Spadafora.

And most importantly, cooking is an effective way to make a home a place where friends, families, and even strangers can share a meal around a table and experience the love and presence of God together.
