Sarah Hammitt: "I'm Kind of a Hoarder ... OK, Fine, I'm Hoardish"
What led former lead singer of Sanctus Real, Matt Hammitt, and his wife, Sarah, to invite millions of people into their everyday, not so polished or perfect lives?
On an episode of Behind the Show, they sat down with Constance Rhodes to talk about just that, along with how they “make sure content is real and raw” for their reality show, The Hammitts Band Together.
When it comes to juggling the everyday happenings of raising four kids, the Hammitts don’t sugar coat the ups and downs of dirty laundry, messy garages, making multiple lunches, and walking through their son Bowen’s heart condition journey.
No matter what comes their way, the goal is to find the beauty in the middle of the story and showcase a “redemptive reality.”
Although Matt tends to be more private about certain home-life realities, Sarah unapologetically declares, “It is what it is, I am who I am,” and often asks God to “do something with this mess.”
The fact they are “obsessed with redemption” is obvious as they work hard to make sure their lives don’t look staged, even if it means revealing the not-so-pretty parts. “I’m kind of a hoarder…Ok, fine, I’m hoardish,” Sarah admits as they jokingly hide their unorganized garage from their neighbors.
When the Hammitts first sat down with Rhodes about the idea of filming a show, Sarah and Matt had a 3–4-hour honest conversation that eventually led to saying yes to something “new, fresh, and very fulfilling.”
While it is more time intensive than expected, and the process has its pros and cons, Sarah says, “It’s life, we’re missionaries, and we can do this!”
Don’t miss this behind the scenes look into the Hammitts’ lives and the making of their show that inevitably pulls viewers into their relatable reality while also pointing to the purpose and redemption that can come through hard and unexpected realities.
