Uvalde Shooting Survivor Walks Out of Hospital After 66 Days: "She Is Our Hero!"
Mayah Zamora is one step closer to the end of the nightmare. The 10-year-old was released from a San Antonio hospital after spending 66 days recovering there. She walked past multiple cheering and applauding hospital staff, as she handed out roses.
“Today was a happy day at University Hospital! Our final patient from the Uvalde shooting, 10 year-old Mayah Zamora, was discharged! She passed out roses and left in style thanks to @HEB. She is our hero and we can’t wait to see all she accomplishes in the future! #MayahStrong,” the elated hospital tweeted.

Zamora went through multiple surgeries after being shot in three limbs during the rampage of crazed gunman Salvador Ramos. The shooting took place at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde County.
There were 19 children and two teachers who lost their lives in what is being called the deadliest school shooting since the Sandy Hook shooting in 2012. It took law enforcement 74 minutes to stop the frenzy at Robb Elementary School.
“It’s a miracle Mayah is alive,” said Zamora’s cousin, Pilar Newberry, shortly after the incident happened.
The students were celebrating the approach of their summer break when the crazed gunman stormed the school.
The Zamoras were planning to go to a Kevin Fowler concert that evening. When the country music star found out about their plan through social media, he visited Mayah while she was still recovering last month.
“This whole experience really hit home with me. I have three daughters and I can’t imagine one of my babies going through this,” he tweeted shortly after the visit.

Zamora is one of three who were injured. She will have a long road ahead of her that involves physical therapy, many more medical expenses and possibly counseling for the trauma that she has been through.
A Go Fund Me page has been started to help pay for the hospital bills, medical expenses and counseling she will face as she continues in her journey of healing.
