Two Months After Being Shot, NFL Player Praises God for "Bigger Purpose"

There was a greater victory on the football field the night the Washington Commanders trumped the Chicago Bears in a 12-7 win.

Brian Robinson Jr. scored the winning touchdown — but the bigger victory story is Brian’s return to the field just two months after being the victim of gun violence.

On August 28th, the NFL rookie encountered two teens in Washington, D.C. They appeared interested in robbing Robinson but a scuffle ensued.

According to Faithwire, “He was shot during the clash, with bullets going through his right glute and right knee. The potentially deadly encounter put his football career in question and forced him into a difficult recovery.”

Brian admitted the incident, injury, and difficult recovery were the lowest point in his life, but credits God and his team for his return to the field with such vigor.

“My biggest goal [was] to find my way back on the football team,” Robinson said during a post-game interview, explaining how his teammates offered love and care during his training and recovery. “[They were] telling me God’s got a purpose for me, just keep going. … I stayed true to that.”

Robinson told NFL on ESPN, “I’m on cloud nine, right now. So happy. You know, I’m just thankful that God gave me another opportunity to come back out here and do it all over again. You know, I’ll never take it for granted.”

According to CNN, “The rookie running back ran in a one-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to score what was to be the decisive score as the Commanders snapped a four-game losing streak.”

Robinson’s debut game was in the team’s loss against the Tennessee Titans the previous week, but even then, he was a comeback story.

He certainly has come back strong from what could have been a deadly incident “with 60 yards rushing off of 17 attempts and the all-important score to help his team to a vital victory.”

Faithwire reports Robinson saying, “‘My momma [was] just telling me God’s gotta plan for me and I had to trust it … it was tough,” he said. “I truly believe God’s got a bigger purpose for me. And I’ve just gotta live through Him every day.'”

It is always a victory story when life triumphs over death.
