Punky Tolson: "How We Think Determines Our Destiny"

The hardest battle Christians will ever face isn’t fought on a physical turf between a family member, boss, co-worker, or friend. No, the most important and difficult battle is spiritual, and it happens in the thoughts that wage war in the mind every single day.

On this episode of Life on Life with Punky Tolson, she addresses the mind game that fear really is, the perpetrator behind the lies Christians believe, and practical tips for how to claim the victory in the middle of the battle.

The father of lies, his name is Satan, and he is on a mission to subtly tell every person they are less than, not enough, and worthless. He leaves fear and anxiety wherever he goes.

With every thought that passes through people’s brains is another chance for the enemy of souls to lace the lies he plants with a tint of truth.

“He knows he can’t take away our salvation,” Punky says, urging believers to lay down every fear at the feet of Jesus because “He wants you to unload your heart.” The author of Hebrews emphasizes this freedom:

“Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need,” Hebrews 4:16, ESV.

The Father of truth, His name is Jesus, and He gives believers the divine right to take authority over the enemy. Tolson encourages viewers to start taking back control of their minds by thinking about what they are thinking about because “our thoughts determine our actions, and our actions determine the direction of our lives.”

For every lie the enemy tries to sneak into our thinking, there is a more powerful truth to declare from God’s Word.

Tolson points out the evidence of this in the reactions of Jesus when He was tempted by the devil in the wilderness in Matthew 4. For every lie and false promise thrown His way, He voiced a truth straight from the heart of God.

Although the battle between the ears is an everyday choice between numbing the negative thoughts or dealing with them, Tolson offers simple practices to help Christians make sure God and His truth have a stronger hold on their minds than the strongholds of the enemy.
