Here's Why Luke Bryan Once Owned Tim Tebow's Heisman Trophy

How does an American country singer wind up with a Heisman trophy on his shelf, you ask?

Luke Bryan and Tim Tebow have the answer.

Southern Living explains that “The Heisman is given each year to the most outstanding player in the NCAA football. Tebow took the title as starting quarterback for the Gators in 2007, becoming the first college sophomore to win the trophy.”

Tim Tebow has a heart for giving. He saw his award, not as something to hoard on his shelf, but as an opportunity for philanthropy. Yearly, he donates six months with the Heisman Trophy to charity auctions.

In 2020, it was Luke Bryan who took home the coveted award.

“‘Tim Tebow showed up to the Red Bird Games and offered up his Heisman up for auction to donate to the Brett Boyer Foundation,” Bryan explained on Instagram. “And my wife bid and won Tim Tebow’s Heisman to be in our home.'”

During a recent interview on The Dan Patrick Show, Tim talked about the fun Tim and Bryan have had as a result of the Heisman.

Tim said laughingly, “‘Luke Bryan, him and his wife, Caroline, who are so sweet, they’re a big part of some nonprofits and we work together, and so he and his wife won it. Then, leading up to Florida-Georgia, ’cause he’s such a Georgia fan, he would put a Georgia jersey on it, he would put peanut butter all over it, let his dog lick it off, he would do all sorts of stuff, and I was like, ‘This isn’t fair,’ Tebow said.”

Besides Luke Bryan and his wife, the trophy has visited other celebrity givers including Kathie Lee Gifford, who was the first winner of the six-month visit with his Heisman.

Tim’s dream is for it to eventually be the “most impactful Heisman” through this charity fundraising.

With all the charities he’s supported, the Heisman has raised well over a million dollars.

The Tim Tebow Foundation advocates for special needs children and children impacted by poverty. It also provides help for victims of human trafficking among other projects.

It’s great for fans to see Tebow and Bryan take their work seriously but not themselves. They enjoyed some good fun over both the Heisman and Bryan’s CMA award, but each is also committed to using their awards to make the world a better place.

Former football star Tebow told Dan Patrick, “My goal with that is that it could be the most impactful Heisman one day, not by sitting on a shelf and us looking at it, by being on a lot of other shelves and making an impact in a lot of kids’ lives.”
