Quarterback Russell Wilson Praises God After Devastating Week 1 Loss: "His Glory Alone"
Anyone who watches football knows how serious the game can be for the fans and the pressure it puts on the players. After a loss, players often get booed. While this may make other players disappointed, Russell Wilson, quarterback of the Denver Broncos, sees this as an honor.
Losing 17-16 in the first game of the season against his former team the Seattle Seahawks, Wilson appeared humble.
“They may cheer for you. They may boo you,” he said during the postgame press conference. “They’ll love you one day, and they’ll hate you the next. That’s sports.”
“At the end of the day, I’m going to keep competing. I’m going to keep battling. I know who I am. First of all, I think for me, I’m just grateful God’s given me the chance to play this game.”
Though the game did not end as he had hoped, Wilson led players on both teams in a prayer after the game, according to Sports Spectrum.
The next morning, Wilson took to Twitter, stating, “God I thank you for it all! You are worthy of ALL my Praise!”
Wilson also took the time to share how grateful he was to reconnect with his former teammates. After 10 seasons, Wilson reported that he felt that God was leading him in another direction.
“I gave everything I had every day [with the Seahawks] … and God brought me somewhere else,” he said. “I’m here, I’m in Denver, and I’m excited about it. I’m excited where we’re going. I’m just grateful. I give the glory to God because He’s given me the gift of playing this game.”
While he loves what he does, Wilson’s top priority is God.
“It’s all for His glory, and His glory alone,” he said. “It’s not for anybody else’s. I play for an audience of One, and that’s just for Him.”
