The Most Important Decision You Will Ever Make

Linkedin Share

Life is full of decisions. In fact, the average adult makes 35,000 decisions per day! Now, these decisions can be as insignificant as what color socks you will wear, or as important as who you are going to spend the rest of your life with.

But there is a decision even more important than who you will marry. It is a decision every person must face:

What will you do with Jesus?

When I was 17, I came face-to-face with that decision. I had already “asked Jesus into my heart” over and over as a child. My main motivation was fear of hell, and it didn’t keep me from making bad choices.

I had an experience at 17 where I felt the presence of God so thick, every doubt I ever had in my life was erased. I remember thinking, “God, you are more real than this chair I am sitting on!”

I knew in that moment Jesus was real and that He loved me. I also knew that I had to change my life. I couldn’t keep doing just what I wanted to do, I had to surrender everything to Him.

That decision was the most important one I would ever make. It would take me on the most amazing and difficult adventure following Jesus for the next 20 years.

Jesus said, “Follow me” 13 times in the Gospels! How we respond to this call is the most important thing we will ever do.

“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6, ESV).

Whether we believe it or not, what Jesus said is absolute truth. Every person has to decide if Jesus is really who He says He is (God) or if He was just a mad man or a liar. Choosing Jesus means choosing life, not only here on earth but in eternity with Him forever.

Evangelist Billy Graham said, “The most important decision you will ever make is the decision you make about eternity.”

If you have never made this decision you can do it today. It’s as simple as telling Jesus you believe He is God, that He died and resurrected so that we could have forgiveness of sins and life forever.

“Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved” (Acts 16:31, ESV).

Once you have made that decision, you have traded your life for God’s! He will give you grace and strength to overcome sin. As you read the Bible, the Holy Spirit will teach you and give you wisdom and guidance.

Though it won’t be easy, Jesus will be with you every step of the way! The most important decision you will ever make is following Jesus.

Say “yes” to Him today.
