Hollywood Actor Said Role in Christian Film Was Answer to Prayer
Everyone knows it’s hard to make it as an actor in Hollywood. Lucas Black says it’s even harder for Christian actors.
Black told CBN News, “There’s a definite agenda to attack some of my beliefs and, you know, some of your beliefs as a Christian,” Black said. “I learned a lot about people’s hearts, where they were coming from.”
Black is best known for his work in “The Fast and Furious” franchise and NCIS: New Orleans. After 125 episodes of NCIS, Black took a break in 2019 to focus on his family and “connect with his Heavenly Father.”
His latest role on the family-friendly network Pure Flix was an answer to prayer for the actor. Black plays Jason, the lead in “Legacy Peak,” about a man desperate for his girlfriend’s children to like him. During a camping trip when everything falls apart, they discover together how to trust and become a family.
Black feels men have been “portrayed poorly” by Hollywood and stated that his part in this role was to “combat that.”
“‘I hope that men who watch it feel empowered and feel like it’s a good message and portrays us in a good light, unlike a lot of other content that’s being produced and has been produced coming out of Hollywood,’ he said.”
The “Fast and Furious” actor also believes there is “a definite agenda to attack” Christian values in Hollywood.
According to the Christian Post, Black was raised in a Christian home but struggled to keep the faith in his twenties in the entertainment industry. In 2015, he became “intentional” about studying his Bible.
“He was ‘convicted by the Holy Spirit’ which helped him dedicate himself to God. He eventually became involved in a church and a Men’s Bible study which held him accountable.”
“Black explained feeling convicted by the Holy Spirit and called by God ‘to stand firm and be bold and to take whatever comes my way’ and ‘speak up’ for biblical Christianity.”
His goal now is to prevent many of the “anti-Christian agendas” that find their way into much of Hollywood’s storytelling.
Of his new movie, Lucas stated, “I hope it points people to Jesus, first of all.” We can pray that Black and other Christian actors find courage and strength to represent Jesus in all they do.
