Fear Not: When Plans Don't Go Your Way, God Knows Exactly What He's Doing
The future is scary. We are completely blind to what happens next in our lives. We can make plans and hope for the best, but God may have something else planned for us. But we can’t let the fear of the future take control of our decisions.
I like to make goals and set priorities for myself. To be honest, I actually make a mental timeline in my head of how I want things to play out in my life. When I think about my future I think about things in a certain order: graduate college, get a job, get married, buy a house, have kids, live happily ever after. I think this timeline is pretty typical for most of us, but it’s not just these broad events that I think about.
Every situation I’m in, I set out my future and I want things to go the way I want, but God may have a different plan. I have to remind myself that it is okay to want things and set goals, but sometimes God has another future in mind.
It is scary to think that no matter what we plan or where we think we’re going, life could turn in a completely different direction. When this happens we can’t lose hope or be scared of what is coming next.
God has a greater plan and a greater story than what we could ever make for ourselves. This is where trusting the Lord comes into play. We have to put all of our trust in Him and know He leads us to the right places, because when you have that trust tomorrow won’t be so scary.
John 14:27 (ESV) reads, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.”
God promises us peace and reminds us that the world cannot give that to us. He tells us to not worry because it is all in His hands. And when you truly believe that there is a purpose for all things that happen and that God has a plan bigger than your own, then you will feel a weight lifted and begin to stop worrying about tomorrow.
