How Fasting Helped This Couple Break the Chains and Draw Closer to God
Aching hearts around the world often wonder: will this trial ever end? Kytia and Jerrell Conner know what it’s like to be in the hard middle of waiting for God to answer the desperate cries of their hearts.
As 2019 rolled in with financial, relational, and health challenges looming over the Conner’s lives, a call from God to embark on a fasting journey created a monumental shift in their spiritual walks.
On an episode of Glowing Through It, the Conners talk about how what initially started as a health journey turned into a series of spiritual revelations.
Shinning a continuous light on their dark places and breaking chains they didn’t realize were weighing them down, God brought peace through their difficult circumstances.
When the Conners partook in a three-day dry fast, they soon realized God was flipping their perspective of present trials upside down. As they listened to that still small voice beckoning them to sever certain relationships, the Conners obeyed, and change began to bloom.
While emphasizing the importance of taking every precaution when fasting, such as talking to health professionals to help guard against negative health effects, Kytia also highlights the urgency of being open to the Lord’s voice when He calls someone to fast, staying close to the Lord to hear His voice, and staying open to what God wants to produce through the period of fasting, even when the results aren’t clear right away.
“You do have to be very prayerful [and] be discerning,” Kytia advises. “Talk to your doctor, you know, if you’re on medications or you’re pregnant, stuff like that.” She goes on to say, “But one thing I’ll tell you guys is when you fast and pray, be open to however the Lord wants to move after that.”
For the Conners, fasting was the final push they needed to catapult them from hopeless disappointment to redeeming breakthrough. Although God walked them through a journey of pruning and weeding out what was hurting their lives, He restored them in ways well worth the wait.
Fasting looks different for every person, but the Conners echo the truth of Scripture that deliverance comes in various ways. God sees the pain of His people; He knows what the final result will be, and like the Conner’s testify to, He invites His own to trust Him with every step of the process.
