Video: Soldier Surprises Wife at Work After 11-Month-Long Deployment

It can be hard for others to appreciate the weight carried by the families of deployed soldiers but this one video demonstrates that without words.

Demilare is a soldier who had been deployed for 11 months. On his return, he decided to surprise his wife, Elizabeth, at her office.

Her reaction beautifully and powerfully tells the story of what happens when the anxiety, fear, extra work, family responsibility, and pain of separation are released in a single moment.

Inspire More says it well: “When you truly love someone, spending even a day apart can feel like an eternity. Yet for our military service personnel and their families, loving one another from afar is often a reality. These dedicated soldiers can be deployed for months or even years at a time, so when they return there’s always a reason to celebrate!”

An article in Guideposts shares prayers we can lift up on behalf of deployed families. Here are two:

“Lord, we lift up military spouses. Bless them with an abundance of courage and fill them with comfort. Please surround them with community to stave off feelings of loneliness. Above all, we pray they would feel Your presence and be reassured that You are with them.”

“Thank you, Lord, for bringing military members home safely. Please continue to protect and provide for these families as they adjust to normal life. Grant everyone patience and peace as they move forward. May the potential stress or awkwardness of this homecoming be outweighed by joy and gratitude.”

Military heroes come in all forms. Some give their lives for their countries; others live their lives for their countries. This sacrificial living deserves our gratitude, respect, and practical support for families who part with loved ones so that we all can enjoy the freedom on which our country is built.

As you pray for military families today, remember this video and Elizabeth’s joy and relief at her husband’s return.
