Two High School Football Teams Join Together to Pray Over Injured Player
High school football players are known for many behaviors but we can now add praying to that list!
Beth West posted a photo to her Facebook page of two teams of Texas football players kneeling in prayer, interceding for an injured player.
Beth commented, “God Bless these young men & their parents for raising them right.”
KDFM reported on the photo, taken by Noah Taylor, that has now gone viral.
“Noah Taylor took the photo during the high school football game August 26 between Nederland at West Orange-Stark. During the second half, a Nederland kick returner went down with an injury.”
“He was motionless, and while staff rushed over to attend to him, the West Orange-Stark players called over the Nederland players. The photo shows them kneeling down together and praying.”
Beth had reported that the young man suffered a concussion but will be okay. KDFM cited reports that he has since been released from the hospital.
As of this writing, the post has been shared over 16,000 times and received almost 500 comments, many from people encouraged to see young athletes free to express their faith, praying on behalf of a friend.
“Glad the player will be okay. Hat tip to WOS and Nederland High Schools for demonstrating that God, compassion and love comes above the rivalry of High School sports.”
“That is so awesome! It gives y (sic) us a hope for our world So very proud of these young men.”
“Thank you for sharing. The youth of our country are way underserved by the coverage they get in the media. There are far more good kids than there are bad. I have great faith in our youth!”
The Apostle Paul wrote these words in 1 Timothy 4:12, ESV, to the young church leader. They seem appropriate for these young people to remember, “Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.”
In this powerful moment of prayer captured in a photo, these football players set the believers a fine example indeed.
