New "Disturbing" Cartoon on Disney-Owned Network Facing Backlash
“Urgent Warning for parents!”
One Million Moms is sounding the alarm on Disney’s new animated series. Disney makes it onto the radar of watch groups a lot lately but they don’t appear to be working to avoid controversy with the creation of this show.
“Disney has taken yet another dangerous step into the darkness with its new animated sitcom series, Little Demon. Sadly, this disturbing program is brought to viewers on FXX, courtesy of The Walt Disney Company, which took control of FXX Network through its purchase of 20th Century Fox.”
The article highlights three of the elements raising concerns for parents:
- “The series focuses on Laura and her daughter, Chrissy, who is the ‘love child,’ produced from her ‘fling’ with Satan.”
- “The trailer is filled with satanic imagery, animated gore, and graphic violence, such as beheaded chickens, pentagrams, dismembered bodies, and melting human flesh.”
- “Rather than being represented as dangerous, demonic, and terrifying, Satan is depicted as an average, middle-aged, cardigan-wearing suburban dad.”
Faithwire quotes actress Aubrey Plaza, who voices Laura, ““I love that we are normalizing paganism. Laura is a pagan. She’s a witch. She’s jacked.”
Louisiana Congressman Mike Johnson expressed his shock on Facebook when he saw the trailer for the show at the end of the LSU opener. Sadly, he couldn’t change the channel fast enough to prevent his eleven-year-old from seeing the ad.
An article in The Washington Stand reports Disney’s synopsis of Little Demon: “Thirteen years after being impregnated by Satan, a reluctant mother, Laura, and her Antichrist daughter, Chrissy, attempt to live an ordinary life in Delaware but are constantly thwarted by monstrous forces, including Satan, who yearns for custody of his daughter’s soul.”
Congressman Johnson quotes one reviewer who wrote “‘Most of the show’s best moments come when it leans into its hellish premise and plumbs the depths of its own depravity.'”
Another reviewer he quotes celebrates the moment Chrissy learns she’s the Antichrist and turns some bullies into “red goo.” This reviewer observed that Chrissy has an “easy-breezy” attitude toward committing triple murder, in line with the tone of the show.
Family Research Council’s Joseph Backholm, also a Christian parent, offers this observation. “It’s very important that our children [aren’t] exposed to things that have the explicit or implicit message that Satan [and] demons are not things that we have to be concerned about.”
“They need to understand that they have a real enemy. Christians don’t need to be afraid of that enemy, but we need to take it seriously,” Backholm continued. “The fact [is], there is a war over our souls, and that’s what this seems to be designed to minimize.'”
Congressman Johnson, in a follow-up to his initial post, cited Ephesians 4:15, “speaking the truth in love” in defending his obligation to post warnings about the show.
One Million Moms has started a petition that as of this morning has over 30,000 signatures urging Disney to cancel the show because it is offensive to Christians and dangerous for all.
