Matt Hammitt Responds After Baseball Team Cancels Pro-Life Sponsored Concert and Family Night

Matt Hammitt delivered a master class in grace and rising above the noise in his response to the last-minute cancellation of Family Night by the Rocky Mountain Vibes due to pressure from groups who disagree with the sponsor, Save the Storks.

The singer and star of reality Liftable.tv show “The Hammitts Band Together,” was scheduled to appear with his sons, Bowen (11) and Lewis (9), at the event. They were at the airport when they received word it had been cancelled.

Matt initially posted to his Facebook page: “I was supposed to be performing at a Rocky Mountain Vibes baseball game in Colorado Springs tonight, but my boys had and I had to head back home from the airport just before our flight. The basic details are below, but I’ll share some more personal thoughts this weekend.”

He added: “I’m still processing my thoughts and feelings about tonights cancellation, but I thought Sarah’s words were touching. In short, the Vibes family night concert (with me and Bowen) was cancelled because the organization we were supporting, Save the Storks, provides free help to women in unplanned or hard pregnancies who want to choose life.

“They never picket or partake in political protests – it’s all love and compassion in action, even toward those who choose differently than we would hope. I’m proud to be an ambassador for Save the Storks. It’s disappointing, but life is still beautiful.”

Fox News reported the team’s statement about the cancellation as well as statements from Save the Storks.

Matt then appeared on Facebook to share his thoughts.

First, he acknowledged his sons were disappointed but he has processed it with them. “So, that’s okay, disappointment’s a part of life and we can deal with it. That’s fine. Those are good lessons to learn.”

Second, though, came the hard part for the family. How would he explain to them the event was cancelled due to their commitment to life?

Matt’s been an advocate of Save the Storks for seven years and believes in their mission to focus on “finding mothers in hard or unplanned pregnancies who desire to choose life but don’t feel empowered to do it.” Matt believes that’s beautiful because it’s their family’s story, too.

When Bowen wasn’t yet born in 2010, Matt and Sarah were pressured by “certain prenatal specialists” to terminate. Matt and Sarah had the faith and support they needed to follow through with their choice to choose life for Bowen.

Matt believes the way the cancellation occurred lacked integrity and encourages fans to express their disappointment but also advocates for grace.

“We’ll keep sharing our story. That’s what we’re going to do. We’ll keep loving people who don’t think like us without wavering in our own beliefs. ‘Cuz we can have that conversation and we can still love people. I know a lot of people don’t think that anymore but I believe it.”

Matt and Bowen then shared the song they were scheduled to perform. A class act, all the way.
