Kathie Lee Gifford: "Marriages Are Under Attack"

Her heart is broken over Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen’s possible divorce.

Television personality and outspoken Christian Kathie Lee Gifford told Fox News Digital that “marriage is under attack.”

In the interview, Gifford spoke about her experience being married to the late Frank Gifford, a former New York Giants football player and television sports commentator.

Kathie Lee has been transparent about challenges she and her husband faced in their 30-year marriage. She stated that everybody experiences challenges but she has been upset about the rumors of a split between Brady, quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and his supermodel wife, Bündchen.

“God loves marriage. God instituted marriage for reason, for a purpose. Family is so important to God. … Marriages are under attack. Monogamy is under attack,” she said.

Gifford talked about the value of family and the importance of making children the priority.

Brady and Bündchen share their children, Benjamin Rein, 12, and Vivian Lake, 9. Gisele refers to Brady’s son, John Edward, 15, with ex, Bridget Moynahan, as her “bonus child.” They have talked about focusing on their children during this time.

“I think marriage should be a holy alliance. Now, there are reasons why certain people should get divorced, and they have physical reasons to … I don’t know their first story. I just know that I’m sorry to them and their children,” Gifford said.

Christian Headlines quotes Gifford saying, “‘I’ve been praying for them,’ she said of Brady and his wife. ‘I hope they reconnect with why they fell in love to begin with. What’s the biggest problem in most marriages? They forget why they ever fell in love in the first place.'”

Do you agree with Gifford that marriages are under attack?

Gifford released “The God of the Way” in August. Co-authored with Rabbi Jason Sobel, she invited readers to join the pair as “we discover the stories of key Biblical figures and how they continue to shape us all today” on her Instagram page.

It is true that every marriage faces challenges, not just those of professional athletes. And, most married couples need great role models, biblical counsel, and straight conversation about hard topics to work through differences and roadblocks.

Former American Football tight end, Ben Watson and his wife, Kirsten, provide all that and more on their reality show, Why or Why Not with Benjamin and Kirsten Watson, on Liftable.tv. As they raise seven children and work at a biblical marriage, they let viewers behind the scenes of their conversations as they seek to apply God’s Word to their lives.

We can all join Kathie Lee in praying for Tom and Gisele as well as other marriages closer to home facing struggles. Most marriages benefit from loving, supportive, praying community rallying around them when they encounter rough spots.

Thank you, Kathie Lee, for setting a compassionate, transparent example.
