Mark Wahlberg's Number 1 Priority Each Morning Should Inspire Christians Everywhere
How do you start your morning?
When asked what he does first thing after waking up each morning, this celebrity’s answer may surprise and inspire you!
There are dozens of books and articles for creating the ideal morning routine for a successful life. But people were surprised to learn what makes the top of actor, business owner, and family man, Mark Wahlberg’s morning must-do list.
Lane Florsheim of The Wall Street Journal asked the 51-year-old, known for the intensity of his routines, “What time do you get up on Mondays, and what’s the first thing you do after waking up?”
Wahlberg responded, “On average, it’s about 3:30 or 4 a.m., if I’m home and in my routine. I always start with a little bit of prayer time.”
That’s right. Prayer.

Later in the interview, he shared another glimpse into his creative life when Florsheim asked, “What makes you feel the most productive?”
“Being consistent with my routine,” Wahlberg replied. “Getting the right amount of rest, really staying focused. My spirituality, my faith has got to be the center of it all.”
And, by all, Wahlberg means raising a family of four, Ella, 19, Michael, 16, Brendan, 14, and Grace, 12, outside Las Vegas with wife, Rhea Durham, while running multiple businesses.
These businesses include “clothing line Municipal, gym chain F45 and restaurant franchise Wahlburgers. On the HBO Max series Wahl Street, now in its second season, he documents running them.”
Earlier this year, he went into greater detail with CBN News saying, “Faith is the most important thing. That’s how I start my day every day. By the time I open my eyes, before I turn the light on or do anything, I am kind of saying my prayers. I go in my prayer room and take that 15 or 20 minutes to express how grateful I am.”
He also prays for all the people in his life, those there every day and others that he encounters periodically. He prays for those who are sick as well as for those who have had an influence on his life.
“That’s how I start my day and then I read my prayer book.”
How refreshing to hear what many Christians experience as an essential practice elaborated on in the life of a productive actor and businessman.
From ancient times to this week’s Wall Street Journal, followers of Jesus have practiced and taught the discipline of beginning the day with prayer and time reading God’s Word.
“Word before world,” as some have taken to calling it, is a way to focus on God’s headlines before the media directs our thoughts whichever way the world is turning that day.
Wahlberg’s life is more evidence that productive and successful people can prioritize the practice of prayer and discover the essential worth of connecting with God before plugging into their day.
