Can 15-seconds change your life?

It certainly changed Walmart worker, 81-year-old Nola Carpenter’s life — for the better.

Insider reports that 19-year-old TikToker Devan Bonagura, “uploaded a video of Carpenter sitting at a break room table at a New Jersey Walmart, with the caption ‘Life shouldn’t be this hard,’ to TikTok. It’s been viewed more than 30 million times.”

Bonagura works for a supplier for Walmart. After the video went viral, he created a GoFundMe page to raise funds for Nola’s retirement.

The gift was life-changing!

Two days later, he posted a photo of himself with Nola to his Instagram page. Overall, he was able to raise $186,653 for the grateful woman so that she can, in fact, retire from full-time work at Walmart.

“But, first, she said she’ll stay on at Walmart to help with the holidays, a notoriously busy shopping period.” Which shows you exactly how deserving this sweet lady is!

Initially, the fund raised $110,000, which was still $60,000 shy of what Nola would need to pay off her mortgage. So, Bonagura did an update and the donations poured in.

“At Walmart’s average wage of $19 per hour, an additional $60,000 would have likely taken Carpenter several more years of 40-hour work weeks to save up. For Carpenter, like millions of US workers with little savings, retirement was not an option.”

Carpenter was “ecstatic.” The reason she worked at the big box store was to earn money for her mortgage. She’s been a faithful employee for 20 years but now, she can move into a new chapter of life.

The change will be a happy one but it’s still bittersweet. “I’m going to miss my customers. They look for me every day.”

She is very thankful to Devan for his compassion. According to the Daily Mail, Devan posted a shocked photo of himself with the words “That feeling when you raise $100k for an elderly Walmart worker in less than 24 hours.”
