God Knows Everything ... But Here's Why I Keep Praying

Linkedin Share

My husband and I are about to celebrate our 9-year anniversary. After you’ve been married to someone for long enough, it’s easy to finish each other’s sentences.

You think more and more alike and sometimes you even start to look alike! So what if we looked at each other and mutually decided that because we are so close, we don’t really need to have a conversation ever again.

Obviously, that’s silly. Anyone who is in a relationship of any kind of depth knows that communication is crucial — not just talking at each other but understanding each other.

Prayer is the same. Sometimes we wonder why we have to bother praying when God already knows our thoughts, but communication is the key to having an intimate relationship with our Savior.

Oswald Chambers said, “Prayer does not fit us for the greater work; prayer is the greater work.”

Prayer is not putting a coin in a vending machine to get what we want out of God. Prayer is not just telling Him what we want, but asking Him what HE wants.

Jesus taught us to pray specifically: “Your Kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven,” Matthew 6:10, ESV.

When we talk to God, we align our spirits here on earth with the reality that is already in heaven. We join Him in ushering those Kingdom things to earth: joy, healing, peace, provision, wisdom, love!

I always tell my kids, “Just talk to Jesus, it makes His heart so happy!” Our Father loves when His kids communicate with Him, it fills Him with great joy.

Prayer is also a way to remove fear and anxiety from our hearts.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus,” Philippians 4:6-7, ESV.

Prayer matters. It strengthens our relationship with Jesus and our faith grows! It helps us align with God’s desire and plan for our lives.

Pray scripture! Keep speaking with Him daily and take the time to listen to what He is saying. It will change everything!
