"Go Big or Go Home": Proud Mom Rents Billboard to Celebrate Daughter Becoming Doctor
If you think your mom makes a big deal about your accomplishments, wait until you meet Kendra Busbee!
When Kristine Smalls graduated from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine with her doctorate in psychology, her New Jersey mom, Kendra, wanted to demonstrate her pride in a big way.
She told Inside Edition, “I had to go big or go home.”
Well, this mama didn’t go home — but everyone driving home on the busy highway leading into Camden, New Jersey can see her pride plastered on a billboard!
For a little over $1200, she rented the digital billboard for about a month to read, “‘Let me re-introduce myself… Dr. Kristine S. Smalls. Look what good came out of Camden.'”
“This was a major accomplishment, and I wanted her to know how special she was,” Busbee said about her gesture.
Kendra had no idea just how big the story of her billboard celebration would become.
On her Facebook page she listed the numerous major news outlets who have carried the story of her daughter’s accomplishment plus all the calls, texts, and direct messages from influential people including Mayor Vic Carstarphen and Governor Phil Murphy.
She says, “When I reached out to Outfront Media to inquire about the billboard for my proud moment to celebrate Dr. Smalls, I spoke it into existence by saying, ‘I want the whole world to see my daughter!’ Boy did my dreams come true.”
In the Inside Edition interview posted on their Facebook page, mother and daughter can be seen standing in front of the billboard that all her mom’s friends and neighbors can see.
“That’s me!” the new doctor announced. “Dr. Kris!”
“I was really surprised. I didn’t expect it at all,” Kristine said.
Rather than be mortified, Kristine says she thinks her mom is the best mom in the world.
Yes, but is she billboard worthy? Maybe one day, we’ll find out.
