Francis Chan Shares 5 Powerful Words Against "My Body, My Choice"
Even before the overturning of Roe v. Wade last month, many Americans have been highly opinionated on the topic of abortion. Francis Chan, former pastor and bestselling author, is no different.
At THE SEND, an annual Christian festival that features preachers and worship music performed by live bands, Chan took the time to let his stance be known, and he had no shortage of words.
In his sermon, Chan compared present-day Christians to Job of The Old Testament. Chan believes that just in the way of Job, God has admiration for today’s Christians who are pro-life and have no fear of sharing their opinions publicly, no matter how unpopular their views are.
“Could it be that God is saying, ‘Look at this generation, … look at these people, they’re not going to back off from the Word of God, they actually believe in a judgment day, they’re willing to preach that, they’re actually willing to speak for the voices of the unborn, they’re not backing off from that?” Chan asked according to The Christian Post.
There has often been debate as to if a woman should be able to decide to terminate her unborn child at any stage of pregnancy. The pro-choice movement has always fought back with the slogan, “my body, my choice,” which leaves some pro-lifers looking for a rebuttal.
Chan had a lot to say about this topic.
“For any of us who think that we can come into the presence of God and say, ‘God, why did you make me this way? Why did I go through this? This is my body, my choice.’
“God says: ‘No, wait a second. No. Nothing is yours. I spoke this world into existence.’ The world is the Lord’s and everything in it. It’s all made by Him. And He doesn’t owe me an explanation.”
Like those in the pro-choice movement, Job questioned God, asking Him why He allowed terrible things to happen to him. After all, Job was considered to be a righteous, God-fearing man.
In Job 38:3-4, ESV, God replies to Job: “Dress for action like a man; I will question you, and you make it known to me. ‘Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding.”
God goes on for a few chapters and continues to ask Job a bunch of “what if” questions.
“Job says something that we all need to say today,” preaches Chan. “In Job 42, Job answers the Lord and says, ‘I know that You can do all things and that no purpose of Yours can be thwarted.'”
For those in the pro-choice movement that proclaim “my body, my choice,” Chan has 5 words to combat that: “God says nothing is yours.”
When Job asked God why him, God not only ignored answering, but instead reminding Job that He existed before time and created everything by His plan.
At that moment, Job knew that while God blessed him, He also had the right to take everything away because He made everything and had the ultimate say.
Chan’s “God says nothing is yours” statement is to be used as a reminder that at the end of the day, God is in complete control.
