Detrans Woman Shares How She Unexpectedly Found Jesus, Who She Was Made To Be
It’s popular to say that “Jesus changes everything.”
Laura Beth Perry Smalts, a detrans woman speaking out about her experience with Jesus can testify that the change Jesus brought to her life went to the core of her identity.
The Christian Post is reporting that Smalts underwent years of “experimental gender medicalization to look like a man” in the hopes of making sense of her inner conflicts about her sex. All she experienced was regret.
She now states she lost nine years of her life taking male hormones and enduring elective surgical mastectomy and hysterectomy due to gender confusion. She genuinely believed she was a man born in a woman’s body.
On her website, Transgender to Transformed, Smalts’ banner reads, “I am a former transgender set free by the resurrecting power of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior.”
Smalts appeared on The Christian Post podcast and talked about finding a relationship with Jesus in the midst of her search for her gender identity. “My whole life became about Jesus. He began to really change me.”
She shares how easy it was to find support and medical intervention to transition from being a woman to appearing as a man.
She initially thought it would be the solution to all the problems in her life. But, after years of trying to receive affirmation as a man, her expectations fell apart.
When her mother found peace in Christ, Laura was deeply impressed with the change she saw in her. She wanted that peace for herself. This led to her finding salvation in Jesus.
Laura didn’t immediately decide to detransition, but eventually, as she describes, “As He (Jesus) began to really change me — I was going to be a ‘man of God,’ but the Lord began to draw me out of it and just slowly to show me the truth of what He wanted for me.”
There was pain at the idea of detransitioning and re-identifying as a woman but God helped her find a way. Now, she’s sharing her story hoping to spare others the pain she experienced.
Among other things, Smalts cautions that she’s now stunned that “medical professionals never stopped her along the way.”
“‘It’s so maddening when I look back. … Where were the doctors willing to say, ‘Hey, wait for a second, this is really not good for your body?’ Smalts asks.”
