Candace Cameron Bure's Response to JoJo Siwa Controversy Was Pure Class
Candace Cameron Bure delivered a Master Class in repentance and restoration when she responded to JoJo Siwa’s TikTok statement that Bure was the “rudest celebrity” she’d ever encountered.
Bure took to Instagram with a “special edition” of the “Candace Car Chronicles” live video explaining her shock at Siwa’s accusation and what she did in response.
She reached out to the 19-year-old former Dance Mom’s star through her public relations manager and by DM’ing her. That’s when the star told her she hadn’t expected her comments to go viral and that to her, it was “no big deal.”
Candace remembered having a positive exchange with JoJo on The Kelly Clarkson Show and the dancer acknowledged that. She was reluctant to share with the Fuller House star what incident left her feeling rejected but finally did explain.
When JoJo was eleven, she was a “super fan” and the two encountered one another on the red carpet at the premier of Fuller House. JoJo asked for a photo but Bure responded “not right now.” Siwa remembers the star then proceeding to take photos with other people.
Bure validated JoJo’s eleven-year-old broken heart. Candace said she felt, not only for JoJo, but as a mom, she apologized to JoJo and also to JoJo’s mother because she understands that when someone hurts your child, you hurt for them.
E! News online reports the lesson Candace feels we can all take from this.
“‘I think that the lesson we can learn is to be mindful of no matter how many followers you have, even a 10 second trending TikTok video can do damage,’ she said.
“‘Because our words matter and our actions matter and whether you have 50 million followers or 500 followers or five followers, we all influence the people around us.'”
Another lesson we can all take from the incident is the example of the Christian way in which the star addressed the situation.
Initially, Candace felt wronged by JoJo because she didn’t recall the incident. But, Bure followed the instructions in Matthew 18:15-17 and took measures to have a direct conversation with JoJo to gain clarity.
Once she realized she had, indeed, hurt the younger star, Candace accepted responsibility, acknowledged the dancer’s experience, and apologized.
Rather than immediately take to the media, Candace responded person-to-person. Her actions resulted in restoration, not only of her reputation, but more importantly, of their relationship.
Bure provided a wonderful example of Matthew 18 lived out and the outcome speaks volumes for the effectiveness of living out God’s Word.
