Woman "Broke Down and Thanked God" After Seeing Home Spared from 28,307-Acre Fire

Over 8,300 firefighters have been working around the clock in California battling 11 major wildfires. This year, 325,083 acres have burned in California so far, according to NBC News.

The Fairview Fire thus far has consumed 28,307 acres and is at 84% containment, and the Mosquito Fire has consumed 41,443 acres and is at 10% containment. In Siskiyou County, the 12,365-acre Mountain Fire is currently at 60% containment and the 3,935-acre Mill Fire is at 90% containment.

Due to the upcoming weather, firefighters remain on guard. Potential critical fire weather threatens Northern California due to a high risk for lightning, according to NBC News.

California is not the only state dealing with wildfires. Both Oregon and Washington are also working to keep fires contained. Oregon’s Cedar Creek Fire has reached more than 92,000 acres, according to The Source Weekly, and is currently 0% contained.

Overall, 92 wildfires have popped up all over the the Northwest, burning around 728,000 acres, according to the National Interagency Fire Center’s Twitter account.

With the 28,307-acre Fairview Fire close to full containment, many residents were allowed to return to their homes. According to KTLA, 22 structures in all were destroyed by the fire and 5 were damaged.

While many Californian residents returned to find out that their homes were destroyed, one resident returned to find her house still standing.

Movalee Carberry is thanking God due to finding her home still standing. Carberry reported that she had left the sprinklers running on her roof, but was uncertain about the status of her home, according to KTLA.

“We could tell the water had been running forever … We walked into the house and it was a big sigh of relief,” she said. “We sort of broke down and thanked God.”

As firefighters continue to keep battling the wildfires occurring in the Northwestern states, one can only pray for God to give them strength and keep them safe.
