They say that God’s timing is always perfect. This was certainly the case in Soap Lake, Washington. The Grant County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) received a call about a little girl drowning.

Brian Walters, a UPS driver, was making deliveries around the Smokiam RV Resort area when that call came in. Little did he know that this would not be an ordinary work day.

When realizing that the 7-year-old was drowning, Walters sprung into action, jumping into the pool to rescue her.

Unbeknown to those on the scene, Walters was not only a UPS driver, but a volunteer firefighter and former reserve police officer. Walters was able to perform CPR on the 7-year-old and save her life.

“She was completely blue, unresponsive, not breathing, no pulse that I could find at the moment,” said Walters according to a report by Inside Edition. “We probably did CPR for about a minute and then she started puking up or coughing up water.”

Once police arrived on scene, the young girl was escorted to an ambulance, where she was allowed to rest.

Officer Kyle Foreman of the GCSO was on the scene and KREM (TV) reported that the girl was alert and crying while in the ambulance. She was then airlifted via helicopter to the hospital for further treatment.

“We want to say thank you to the UPS driver for acting, performing CPR and saving this child’s life,” Officer Foreman states in a video posted to the GCSO’s Facebook account. “Hopefully, we’ll have more information on this child’s condition later.”

Walters’ quick acting saved the young girl’s life.

“If I get a chance to see her and say hi to her,” said Walters. “I’m praying for her.”

According to the CDC, drowning is the second leading cause of accidental death in children aged 1 to 14 after motor vehicle accidents, with 3,960 leading in fatality and 8,080 non-fatal drowning occurring in 2021.

Thanks to Walters being in the right place at the right time, one little girl gets a second chance at life.
