10 Gospel Packed Verses Every Christian Needs to Know
Are You Prepared?
As Christians, we believe that “faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ,” (Romans 10:17, ESV). And as ambassadors for our King, we must be ready to testify to the gospel of grace.
Sadly many Christians in America know more lines from movies than lines from their Bibles.
If you were put into a position on the street, in the check-out line, on your front yard, or talking to another parent at soccer practice, could you preach the gospel to them in a verse?
The gospel is a message and it requires that we open our mouths about the truth of Christ. Christian, are you prepared to share the gospel with one verse?
Memorize, Meditate, Repeat
In a world with same day pick up, next day shipping, two day delivery, fast food, and high speed internet, we rarely stop to memorize the precious Word of God. We require it for VBS but we are quick to sidestep this practice for various reasons.
God’s Word is to worth more “than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb,” (Psalm 19:10, ESV).
Consider how you look at something beautiful, like a precious jewel. You hold it up, look at it, and enjoy it.
Or consider how you eat that steak dinner. You bite, chew, savor, and relish in it. How much more ought we to engage with God’s Book?
May we never read and leave; may we savor, mediate, cherish, and memorize these precious and life-giving words (cf. John 6:68, ESV).
This list is seeking to present verses that clearly state the good news of the gospel: Jesus’s death in the place of sinners. So, here are ten verses every Christian needs to memorize that summarize the gospel message:
- Mark 10:45, ESV: “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
- John 3:36, ESV: “Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.
- Romans 5:8, ESV: “but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
- Romans 6:23, ESV: “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
- 2 Corinthians 5:21, ESV: “For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”
- Ephesians 1:7, ESV: “In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace.”
- 1 Timothy 1:15, ESV: “The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost.
- Titus 3:5, ESV: “he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit,”
- 1 Peter 2:24, ESV: “He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.”
- 1 John 4:10, ESV: “In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”
Get into God’s Word, and get God’s Word into you.
