When Louisiana wildlife rehabilitation specialist Leslie Greene came across an accident, she was unaware of the sweet blessing that would be bestowed upon her and the animals in her care.

According to People, a produce truck was transporting over 100 watermelons and cantaloupes to the Louisiana Watermelon Festival in Farmerville when it was involved in an accident that left the fruit scattered all over the road.

Once she knew everyone was okay, Greene had a thought.

“I asked the owner of Yak’s Produce, ‘Well, hey, if y’all are not going to use all this watermelon that’s already open, can I have it for the wildlife rehab?’ And the owner is like, ‘If it can go to another cause instead of being discarded, that would be wonderful,'” she told People.

To Greene’s surprise, not only was she able to keep the fruit, but Yak’s Produce also loaded up and delivered it personally to River Bandit Rescue, the 4-acre animal rehab center, which houses 42 animals, including skunks, coyotes, beavers, raccoons, goats and other critters, according to WTMJ-TV.

Greene took to social media and shared her experience on her Facebook account, showing her critters enjoying their special treat.

“They absolutely love it,” she told People. “With it being so hot and humid, it’s the perfect snack.”

After many of her followers thanked Yak’s Produce for their generosity towards the animals, the produce company reached out to Greene and offered her and the animals any produce they had that could not be sold or used.

“So it turned out to be a big win for us and the wildlife,” said Greene. “I appreciate Yak’s and appreciate all the animal lovers who did reach out to Yak’s and tell them thank you.”

This story just goes to show that God always provides, even for our four-legged friends.
